Cemaes gets into the carnival spirit with support from Horizon

Horizon Nuclear Power has donated £5,000 towards this year’s Cemaes Carnival, through its Charitable Donations, Community Support & Sponsorship scheme.
The annual event, which has been held on August Bank Holiday Monday since 1934, relies on donations from local organisations and the fundraising efforts of the committee throughout the year to go ahead.
However, given the unpredictability of August Bank Holiday weather, Horizon has donated £5,000 to enable the organisers to buy a new marquee to keep visitors and stalls dry and sheltered, whatever the weather.
Richard Foxhall, Stakeholder Relations Manager at Horizon, said; “Cemaes Carnival is a long-running event that brings together the community and tourists from far and wide.
“It’s also held down the road from the Wylfa Newydd site office, so we wanted to offer support to the team that organise it. While we’re all hoping for a sunny weekend, the donation will help make sure it’s another huge success come rain or shine.”
Steve Bray, leader of the Carnival Committee, said; “We’re extremely grateful to Horizon and everyone else who donated towards the carnival. Without support from local businesses and other community groups the event wouldn’t be possible.
“The new marquee is particularly important as poor weather has sometimes harmed the success of the carnival in the past, but we now have a contingency if it rains. On behalf of the whole committee I would like to thank Horizon for its generosity.”
This year’s carnival will be on the 28 August, with the procession starting at 1pm and festivities taking place throughout the day. For more information about the event, go to Cemaes Carnival’s Facebook page or email cemaescarnival@aol.com
