Horizon announces two new Leadership Team members

SEPT 5th 2017. Horizon Nuclear Power has today announced the appointment of Rabih Hafez as Project Planning Unit Director effective from 1st September 2017 and James Jones as General Counsel and Company Secretary.
Rabih has over 34 years of international experience working on multi-billion dollar nuclear projects including Nuclear New Builds.  Most recently he was Senior Project Manager for Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant in Slovakia, one of the most advanced Nuclear New Build projects in Europe.
His other new build credentials include working for engineering, infrastructure and power company SNC-Lavalin on nuclear refurbishments and Turkey’s Akkuyu nuclear new build proposal and with Assystem providing services for the Barakah nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates.
 
Rabih will head up Horizon’s newly created Project Planning Unit (PPU), which will bring together the best of Horizon’s internal expertise with that of its Engineering Procurement and Construction partners, Menter Newydd and incorporate additional ABWR planning and construction capabilities from Japanese utilities.  
 
James experience spans 25 years in the nuclear and energy sector.  He worked for Horizon as Principal Counsel for five years before being appointed General Counsel and Company Secretary effective of 1st August 2017. Previously he worked at PowerGen and EON. James leads the legal team, which is responsible for maintaining compliance and governance across Horizon.

This news comes as Horizon continues to build momentum in all areas of its project. It recently completed a third and final round of Pre-Application Consultation on Anglesey and is progressing its application for the main planning consent – a Development Consent Order. Its technology, the UK ABWR continues to make good progress through the fourth and final stage of the Office for Nuclear Regulation Generic Design Assessment process, on target to complete in Dec 2017. In addition Horizon submitted an application for a Nuclear Site Licence in March 2017 which if successful, will be granted in 2018.
