There are currently more than 60,000 people employed by the UK nuclear industry. Jobs in this sector are often long-term, rewarding and highly skilled. Our major investment plans for two new nuclear power stations at our Wylfa Newydd site on Anglesey and our Oldbury-on- Severn site in South Gloucestershire will require a huge range of nuclear, engineering, construction and organisational skills. Recruitment is now our priority as we build the organisation ready for power station construction and operation.

Job opportunities
Once our projects for new nuclear power stations at the Wylfa Newydd site and Oldbury-on-Severn site are approved, we expect to create up to 850 permanent jobs per station, with a construction workforce of around 4,000 workers for the majority of the time, with between 8,000 and 10,000workers during peak periods, per station.
We will require nuclear specialists in safety, licensing, radiology and design. We will also need project and site development engineers as well as construction workers, support services and local liaison staff.

Skills required
To take advantage of these opportunities it is imperative we have the right skills base in the UK and around our sites. This means we will need to work with industry, Government and educational establishments to develop the necessary technical skills and support learning initiatives.
Horizon Nuclear Power is developing a strategy at a local and national level to ensure a pipeline of skilled workers will be available for our projects both during construction and operation. Hitachi Nuclear Energy Europe and our other Tier 1 suppliers will play a major role in further developing this strategy and rolling it out locally.
If you are interested in pursuing a career in the nuclear industry there are lots of information resources available to help you select the right subjects, courses or training to get involved. For everything you need to know about skills and training see our Useful Links page.

We expect to create up to 1,000 permanent jobs and at each site.
The civil nuclear industry employs more than 60,000 highly skilled people.
