Technical Apprenticeship Scheme
Please note: Applications for this year’s Technical Apprenticeship Scheme have now closed (Friday 3 March). We’re now reviewing all of the applications we’ve received.
To register your interest in Horizon’s 2018 Apprenticeship Scheme contact our careers team at email@example.com or call our Freephone Wylfa Newydd information line on 0800 954 9516.
To help us build and operate Wylfa Newydd, we need a talented and diverse team with the right skills to deliver one of Europe’s largest and most exciting energy projects.
In growing our current team on Anglesey, we want to support the next generation of workers by offering a range of training opportunities, including our Technical Apprenticeship Scheme.
We know that Wylfa Newydd’s future workers will mostly be at school, college or university at the moment and we want to create opportunities to play a part in our Project at this early stage. We also want to attract older candidates who have already started their careers but want the chance to re-train.
In its second year, our Technical Apprenticeship Scheme will give successful candidates valuable experience on an exciting and complex development and kick start your career in the nuclear and energy sector. It will offer you practical experience and help you to develop skills and knowledge across a range of technical areas, which you can use during your training and then throughout your professional career.
We’ll be working closely with Coleg Menai to deliver these apprenticeships given its significant experience in providing skills and training across North Wales.
What can you expect from a Technical Apprenticeship with Horizon?
- Develop a grounding in a wide variety of core technical and practical skills and a broad-based understanding of engineering
- Gain new qualifications.
- Earn a salary and holiday allowance that’s competitive with other power and nuclear industry apprenticeship schemes.
You will need (or will be expecting to achieve):
- 5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including Maths, English and Science), or equivalent qualifications
- Other qualifications which demonstrate a similar academic capability to the 5 GCSE benchmark will be considered favourably, including Welsh language qualifications.
Apprenticeships will last three years and include training across several Coleg Menai campuses and Horizon offices:
|YEAR||WHAT QUALIFICATIONS WILL YOU GAIN?||WHERE WILL YOU BE BASED?|
|Year 1||Level 2 NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) and Technical Certificate||Mainly Coleg Menai (Bangor and Llangefni)|
|Year 2 and 3||BTEC Level 3 Diploma and NVQ Level 3 in a chosen engineering discipline and extensive on-the-job learning, with some training at Coleg Menai sites and nuclear sites||North Wales, Coleg Menai (Bangor and Llangefni) and some travel / stay outside of Wales|
